Design is the process where we drill down on the requirements collected and gather them into a refined data model, set of development approaches, and conceptual process models. This stage allows developers to map the business process steps outlined in the discovery session to specific development tasks and approaches. When the design is fully completed, an implementation of that design is made by developers, systems administrators, and other technical resources. This leads us right into the next stage of the framework, Development.

Design Activities

Typical Design activities include but are not limited to:

• Prioritization of deliverables (this is needed when projects are multi-phased)
• Core functionality framework and documentation
• Final agreement on phasing
• Final agreement on development approach vs. process changes
• Agreement on scope management, project policies, and tolerances
• Acknowledgment of budget and time constraints
• Define project management responsibilities (status meetings, steering committees, etc)
